A short series shot in San Ardo, California, during a road trip through the Salinas Valley in June.
“Por un rato, el viento que soplaba desde abajo nos trajo un tumulto de voces amontonadas, haciendo un ruido igual al que hace el agua crecida cuando rueda sobre pedregales.” —Juan Rulfo, El llano en llamas
It was my first time in that area and, as a big Steinbeck fan, I was really pleased to see some if the places we wrote about so well. Thanks for the comment and for checking out my post.
John Steinbeck was born and grew up in the Salinas Valley. His book, the Long Valley takes place there. Its great to be able to put images to the words.
Thanks, Richard. It was indeed a hot, breezeless place.
Flag is lovely image – the quietest breeze not influencing the intensity of the heat at all.
Thank you, Richard. It was over 100F that day, but the sky was still blue. A quiet place.
Love the emptiness of these shots, Chris. The colour only serves to emphasise it more.
Yes, it does. And I agree Rulfo is amazing. Thanks for checking out the post!
Juan Rulfo … One of my favorite authors. I like your anchor image. So perfect in its imperfection, if that makes sense :)
